Together at Home
We are in this together. Social Distancing. Together at home. Endless memes. Interpreting an endless number of news, opinionsw, and numbers all centered around the coronavirus that results in covid-19. The year 2020 has turned out to be nothing that any of us have ever seen before. I don’t want to add to the clichés and platitudes that are already everywhere in the media and the internet. I do want to find a way to connect and show support as the School Head of Yokohama Christian School. Normally, I get to mingle with parents or chat at drop-off and pick-up times. I see all the students at YCS during the week, either in the halls or at lunch or even when I drop into classrooms. All of those avenues of communication and connection are now closed for the time being.
Our children are all learning new technologies, but are suffering the loss of personal contact with friends. We are becoming the managers of education and our staff are providing materials, but losing out on the amazing boost that seeing student achievement brings to every teacher.
What are the bright spots for all of us right now? Livestreaming concerts are becoming the new way to relax and engage with the musical arts. Ballet and musical theater is more available in our living rooms than ever before. Museums of the world have amazing virtual tours that can be taken at your own speed without needing to pay for airline tickets or planning your hotel stay.
I see you and I am here to listen and connect in any way I can.
On Fridays, I will be posting a blog about my week and how it might connect with your week. If you would like to schedule a Zoom meeting with me at any time, please feel free to email me any time. I will be recording stories for children to watch to give you a little break. I will be popping into the Zoom classroom meetings from time to time to see how students are doing and to say hello.
