Trusting God in Hard Times

“Master, Master, we are going to drown!”, screamed Jesus’s disciples who were in the boat. (Luke 8:24). The disciples were facing a storm and were getting swamped with danger. In the midst of this situation, after trying all their best, they ended up calling upon Jesus who happened to be sleeping during all this.

To reflect on this, let’s ask ourselves: who do we call upon in the middle of our life storms?

One of the first disciples of Jesus were Simon and his brother Andrew who happened to be fishermen, which means their speciality was fishing in deep waters. But when the storm came, they called to the Lord for help. This meant that even after they had used all their knowledge and techniques of the sea, when confronted by their own limitations, they had to go back to the Lord.

Just as a sponge full of water pushes out water when pressed, faith is what comes out of a Christian when going through hard circumstances. As Paul wrote in Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” ‭‭This means that even in hard times we should still have that Confidence, that Hope, that Assurance, that even when we do not see nor feel it, the Lord is at work in all our situations. We just need to call Him to come and help us – our Savior and miracle worker.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” ‭‭

Proverbs 3:5-6

We will walk through things we do not have any control over and the only one who does is God. He will give us strength to push through it. Just put your trust in Him and He will be faithful to you.
