End of Year Reflections

The 2018-2019 School Theme at Yokohama Christian School has been:

The Promises of God:  The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. Psalm 145:13-14

Our students and staff have been able to focus on the variety of promises God has made to His people as the school year has progressed. As human beings, we can not always keep our promises – we change our mind, circumstances get in the way, and we make excuses. However, God Will Not Forget His Promises – I am watching over my word to perform it. Jeremiah 1:12b. Does God’s promise keeping always look the way we think it should? Not always.

As we reach the end of this school year, staff and teachers can attest to how God has kept His promises for Yokohama Christian School. The nature of the international community in Yokohama necessitates faith – people are often moving in and out of Japan, children suddenly move schools, parents decide on a different direction for their child, and any number of things can change our student population. One of our promises this year was: God Will Provide for Your Needs – And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19. He has done that repeatedly over this past year and we have faith that He will continue doing so.

Another promise this year was – You Will Bear Fruit – I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5. An extracurricular program that began last year with a single activity, Chess Club, has grown to include: Badminton Club, Classics Club, and the new Joyful Noise Children’s Choir.  Our extracurricular “fruit” is an exciting part of student life at YCS.

Another exciting “fruit” to watch grow is the Upper Elementary class. It is the first full year of teaching for our Upper Elementary classroom. We are excited to see how this class will continue to grow and develop over the coming years.

Our long-time school head at Yokohama Christian School has been called back to the United States and we pray for Pastor Linda and Pastor Ken as they repatriate and begin a new phase in their life. We know that “God Will Give You Strength” and be with you through the process of moving back and getting used to a very different lifestyle. You are in our thoughts and prayers here at YCS!

As Yokohama Christian School moves forward, it is important to remember yet another promise God Will Be With You – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9. I pray that as this school year slowly winds down and we prepare for the next that we can take comfort and strength from all the promises we have learned over the course of this 2018-2019 year.
