Field Training in Keeping Calm and Trusting God
On Friday, April 18, YCS students went on a wonderful field trip to the Field Athletic Tsukushino Course in Midori Ward, Yokohama. We had never done a field trip quite like this before and we didn’t know how difficult the different climbing structures would be for the different children, but we all thought it would be worthwhile.
As the head of school, I often don’t attend field trips or serve as chaperone since a field trip is a rare quiet day to get a lot done at school. However, this was a field trip that looked like so much fun that I just couldn’t miss it!
After setting up the lunch mats and dropping off backpacks, I accompanied Mr. Adam and Ms. Chloe’s groups around the park. Almost immediately, I realized how the whole field trip was a test for our students to “keep calm” and “trust” not only in their teachers, but also in God.
The first obstacle that the group encountered was one that required trust in a teacher to help them navigate. Listening for specific directions and safely maneuvering their bodies to complete the obstacle tested the children, but the sense of pride and achievement was palpable amongst the students who finished. The entire adventure really showed how working as a team and trusting each other produced wonderful results.
This field trip reinforced how, when we trust God with our lives, we are rewarded in ways we cannot necessarily anticipate. The rewards are real, all we need to do is trust.
